Man vs. Wild: The Perfect Storm

Yesterday I had to take the second half of my CRP/AED course in Portland. It's 80 miles south of Waterville (where I currently live). The weatherman predicted that a heavy snow storm would be dropping anywhere from 1.5 to 2ft over my entire journey. Then, while I was in the class, it would sleet for 2 hours, and on my way home, it would freeze creating the perfect interstate of black ice to guide me home.

Chris told me I should head down early to beat the brunt of the bad weather. I agreed. So at 10am I packed for my trek up Everest (or drive down I-95), and hit the road.

I had to laugh at myself. I took a picture of half of what I packed.

Snacks, water bottle, uggs, two pairs of socks, a change of clothes, north face hat, gloves, ipod, tampons, pads, cell phone, charger, emergency fund atm card, rescue breathing mask, maglite flashlight, down jacket, a novel and an anatomy book to study when I get trapped in my car and have to wait for help.

What you don't see (because it's in my trunk) is: cat litter in case I slide off the road and need traction, down blankets, more water, petroleum jelly and cotton to start a fire, 2 lighters, another flashlight, and rope.

I made it to Portland. It snowed 1/2 an inch (1/2 a freaking inch). My class was somehow canceled. I drove home.

Screw you, Mother Nature. Screw you.
