Could you?

Do you want $10,000 dollars? What about $60,000? Would you sell your eggs for it?

I'm not talking chicken and the egg. I'm talking your ovary and its eggs. For these simple requirements:

1. Donor must be between the ages of 21 and 33 and in good health.
2. Donor must have obtained a high school diploma or GED.
3. Donor must have been a non-smoker for at least 6 months prior to submitting an application to donate and must continue to abstain from smoking.
4. Donor's Body Mass Index must be between 18 and 29; visit the Centers for Disease Control website @ http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/index.htm to determine your BMI.
5. Donor cannot have obtained any tattoos, body piercing or blood transfusions within the past 12 months.

It takes about 20 hours sporadically over a 3 month period, and you get 10 grand. You can donate up to 6 times. It's completely anonymous.

60 thousand big ones.

Could you do it? Would you?

If you asked me right this second, I would say yes. If you asked me after I did it, I'm sure I would feel guilty. If you asked me after my first child, I would probably be sad. If you asked me in 20 years, I would probably be borderline mentally unstable over it.

I guess I also have to consider that nothing that I have is just "mine" anymore. Now that I'm part of Team Hennessey my egg is just as much his egg, even if his counterpart hasn't joined in the fun. So it'd be a joint decision. (although, 20 bucks he says "go for it!")

The over-analytical and super emotional person that (i don't like to admit) I am, the answer is no. That be said, I totally think that if you can detach yourself from "your egg" being "half your child" then you should go for it. See ya student loans and consumer debt.

Think about it.

I actually just had a semi-serious conversation about this with my husband. Who knew this was even an option? And it is SO tempting ... but I don't think I could know that my children were out there somewhere being raised by somebody else. And what if they screwed something up and I couldn't have any more children myself? That would destroy me, I could never forgive myself. So I guess my answer is no, I couldn't do it. But it sure seems like a good idea at first glance.
