Squeamish beware

Today. Oh Today.
I cleaned up the biggest bowel movement in the history of all bowel movements.
And I didn't wretch once.

I'm not sure how the other nursing students seem to avoid these situations.
It's like I have a giant sign over me saying, "LIKES TO CLEAN POOP"

I know what it is.
It's that darn Branson in me.
I make eye contact and smile at strangers.
"You're too nice," they say.
Well you know what nice gets you?
Poop.

In other less fecal news, I did my first sterile dressing change.
It involved packing xerofoam gauze down into a poor, unsuspecting soul's abdomen.
I'm glad she didn't ask the dreaded question.
In case you're wondering, the dreaded question is, "how long have you been doing this?"
With shaky hands, a wad of gauze, and a q-tip at least an inch deep in her poorly approximated wound.....
"Oh, well, let's see... 5 minutes?"
That's how you get demoted to poop duty.

So out of my 7 hours on the floor, I got to be a nurse for an hour of it.

Baby steps.

And just because I don't feel like I said it enough: poop.
