Running This Week + Something Monumental

Let's start with this monumental something.  I confessed once that I have a terrible sugar addiction.  As in dessert for breakfast, lunch, and dinner addiction.  As in my scrubs were getting tight addiction.  And, well, we all know that being healthy is 60% what you eat/ 40% exercise.  Would you like an example: I trained for a marathon and gained weight.  How?  Because I eat too much.  And of that too much, 90% of it is bad for me.  So with a true "baby steps" mentality, I gave myself 2 food rules to follow.

1. Write it down in the food log.
2. If it doesn't taste awesome.  Don't eat it.

Basically, I work in an office where every time I walk in the break room there is some kind of platter of goodness.  And I'll eat it, just because it's dessert, and it's there.  Well guess what?  I don't really like chocolate ice cream, so why did I just eat that chocolate ice cream cake?  Or I took a bite of that brownie, and it's dry.  Throw it away.  And I think Hershey's chocolate taste like wax, but I'm bored so I eat 3 pieces.

I think you have a pretty good idea what I'm up against.  Soo... drumroll please.... today while I was eating my perfectly healthy lunch, a woman walked in and said, "oh, thank you so much for all you do! here is a platter of whoopiepies.cookies.brownies.lemonbars.pumkinbars."  Then she set it on the table and walked away.  And guess what I did?  (If you guessed ignored it, you seriously overestimate me)

I finished eating my meal, and grabbed a cookie to eat later.  One cookie!  And then guess what.  I took a bite of the cookie, and it tasted like cardboard with chocolate chips in it.  So I threw it away (and possibly scoffed under my breath that if they are truly thankful for my work they would give me a decent tasting cookie, but that's neither here nor there really).

THIS. IS. MONUMENTAL. PEOPLE.

I'm on the road to recovery and it feels good.

In other news, I only ran once this week, the 80 minuter, because my knee is really bothering me.  Hopefully the rest helped, because I'm going to abuse her this week!

M: 40 MIN
T: rest
W: 55 MIN

GO YOU! Sometimes I can be the queen of no sugar, and other times I'm just like you. I like your rule -- don't eat it if it doesn't taste good. Simple, but so often ignored. I'm going to write down your rules and try to follow your example. :)

You just killed me. I laughed so hard when I read this post. Okay, I have a confession to make too! It's my fault. You got the sugar addiction from me. We should make a pact and keep each other accountable. No sweets, we get to treat ourselves to something at the end of the week and I don't mean a whole chocolate cake or pie or something to that effect. A 'treat'.

You in? Hehehehe! And, I say this as I ate nearly an entire bag of Salt Water Taffy. I am going to hide the rest from ME!!
