I've always loved my curly hair. And for them most part, I think it loves me too. We've had our rough patches. A couple terrible haircuts. A phase of poofing. A phase of slicking. A little [okay a lot] too much blonde. Just last year I think my hair and I were at the best place we could be in the course of our relationship....
And then I moved to Maine.
And I don't know what it is. The dry climate? Hard water? I just don't know, but my hair has never been drier, split endier, nastier, ever..er. I use an ungoshly amount of the world's most expensive conditioner, leave-ins, serums, cremes, silk infusion. I stopped blow-drying; i tried no product (scary!). It's terrible.
And it makes me sad.
And it makes me especially sad because other people notice. And make comments. (P.S. no such thing as tact up here). Like... "you poor girl, look at all that hair." or "wow, I used to want curly hair." or "you know you can get it chemically straightened, right?"
What's worse is there is nothing I can do about it. I've tried every thing out there apart from washing my hair with bottled water. And I don't want to chemically straighten it (fear of commitment).
So here I sit, at my desk, with my hair pulled back in a messy bun with some form of headband on, like every other day. Remincising about the good ol hair days, and dreaming of a day where I can wear my hair down again.
